Several colleges and universities (Centre in
Boyle County; Campbellsville University in Taylor County; Lindsey Wilson in Adair County; University
of Kentucky Extension in Danville) provide opportunities for
higher education and possible employment.
Most industry is agricultural, with cattle, horse and dairy farming
being most popular. The proximity to Lexington with its
concentration of horse breeding and racing is a definite plus for
the horse person. Tobacco, wheat, oats, corn & barley top the list
for money crops. The long growing season, abundance of water, and
good soil make this area perfect for the farmer, large or small.
The topography, consisting of
bottomland near creeks and rivers, knolls (as the natives call the
rolling hills), and the higher ridges give the terrain a constantly
changing ambiance for beauty, seclusion and versatility.
